Vivienne Westwood LGBTQ+ Fashion – Looking Back!
Vivienne Westwood LGBTQ+ Fashion Icon
In the 1980s, Westwood’s style took a more androgynous turn with the launch of her “buffalo” collection. This collection featured oversized, gender-nonconforming clothing that challenged traditional gender roles and allowed people to express themselves in a way that was true to their identity. Westwood’s style during this time was characterized by baggy trousers, oversized blazers, and flat shoes – all elements that have since become associated with the grunge movement.
In the 1990s, Westwood launched a line of clothing specifically designed for the LGBTQ+ community. This line, called “Gay Sexual Freedom,” featured clothing with rainbow-colored designs and slogans that celebrated LGBTQ+ pride. Westwood’s style during this time was characterized by bright colors, bold patterns, and exaggerated shapes – all elements that have since become associated with the rave and clubbing scene.
Today, Westwood’s style is still characterized by her avant-garde and rebellious aesthetic. She continues to push the boundaries of traditional fashion and is seen as a pioneer in the industry. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of fashion designers and LGBTQ+ individuals alike.
Vivien Westwood has touched many, so they can inspire, innovate and change the the way we live our fashion lives and she once said “It is not possible for a man to be elegant without a touch of femininity.” Now Slay!
